It was passed on to me by someone who thought it was equally as brilliant, and now I’m going to pass it on to someone else. Thoughts: This is such a wonderful, challenging book. You’ll like this if you liked: Imagine Jacqueline Wilson for an older audience, and on a desert island (and who wouldn’t like that) When a little dog leads her to another survivor, can she live long enough to find a future worth fighting for? Pushed to the limit in extreme conditions, she battles to come to terms with her past. Especially when she is haunted by memories of the things that she did before, the things that made her a monster. She has to find water, food and shelter, and survival is hard. Then, as the lone survivor of a terrible plane crash, she ends up cast away on a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. In a nutshell: Life has always been an endurance test for Frances. There were friends once, but they melted away. ‘”Do you have any friends, Fran?” Sally-the-Counsellor’s voice, ever calm and ever concerned.
